Welcome to Sandhill Tree Farm!

 

Our farm can be traced back to August 10, 1837 when Milwaukee’s very own Daniel Wells, Jr. and Chicagoan, Gurdon Hubbard received a land patent from the U.S. Government to purchase our modern-day parcel.

 

In 1873, the northern portion of the farm was owned by Wilhelm Ferdinand Opitz, a native of Saxony, Germany, he emigrated to the United States in 1839. In partnership with Adolph Zimmermann, he built the Mequon Brewery – today known as Foxtown Brewery.

 

After serving as an agricultural farm for almost 100 years, the farm was used to board horses before the farm’s natural beauty was harnessed in a new way, establishing Sandhill Tree Farm.

 

Jaclyn and David Ness, and their three children - Callyn, Carter and Colton - purchased the farm in November 2020. We, as a family, are thrilled to build on the amazing history by planting, growing and selling some of the best quality Christmas trees in Southeast Wisconsin.

 

Having dedicated nearly one-half of the 75-acres to growing Fraser Firs, Sandhill Tree Farm is a choose and cut Christmas tree experience which has become, for many, a treasured holiday tradition. Every tree that is cut from the field is replanted in the spring – real trees are 100% biodegradable and recyclable.
